National Day Celebrations
On 8 August 2024, the college commemorated Singapore’s 59th National Day with a series of fun-filled events. Dressed in red and white, students and staff celebrated this joyous occasion as one big JPFam! This year’s National Day celebration featured the National Day Observance Ceremony, the National Day Carnival, and the much-anticipated National Day Concert. The theme, “Together, As One United People,” conveyed a powerful message for all Singaporeans to embrace the future with confidence and work together to create a shared destiny as a united nation.
Celebrations began with the National Day Observance Ceremony where a contingent comprising students from uniformed groups such as NCC, NPCC, Girl Guides, Boys’ Brigade and Red Cross marched into the hall carrying the state flag. The flag-raising and recitation of the National Pledge renewed a collective commitment to the nation’s values. A video clip of the 2024 National Day Message by our Education Minister, Mr Chan Chun Sing, was shown followed by a speech by our Principal, Mr Kevin Ang, who gave a poignant opening address to set the tone for the day and reminded the JPFam about the significance of National Day.
Following the Observance Ceremony, the National Day Carnival transformed the campus into a hub of festivity! The concourse came alive with vibrant booths offering thrilling games and interactive activities, each representing the rich tapestry of Singapore’s diversity and unity. The canteen was abuzz with laughter and conversations as students enjoyed an array of local food delights, deepening the sense of camaraderie. Adding to the excitement, various CCAs hosted themed Escape Rooms that captured the essence of Singapore, challenging students to work together and solve intricate mysteries. Meanwhile, the lecture theatres offered a captivating blend of entertainment and inspiration, with screenings of the Olympic Games featuring Singaporean athletes like Shanti Pereira and Maximilian Maeder, as well as the documentary “I’m Singaporean.” These events combined to create a vibrant and immersive celebration.
The highlight of the day was the highly anticipated National Day Concert. Excitement filled the air as the winners of the Escape Rooms were announced. The celebration then reached its peak with mesmerizing performances by our very own JP Spotlight contestants who led in the sing-along session. A special video embodying the theme “Together, As One United People” was showcased, followed by an engaging Game Show segment organized by the Community Engagement Council students, featuring activities like National Day-themed songs blind karaoke and a trivia quiz. The hall echoed with laughter and joy as students immersed themselves in the thrilling games. The English Drama Society also put on a captivating performance, highlighting Singapore’s remarkable journey through the years. The concert concluded on a high note with a heartfelt performance by JP Horizon, where students joined in singing “Tomorrow’s Here Today,” “Home,” and “One Singapore.” The collective voices created a vibrant atmosphere, leaving everyone in high spirits.
In honour of Singapore’s 59th Birthday, JPFam’s National Day Celebration was a resounding success. We were left with joyful memories and a strengthened sense of unity. The event strongly demonstrated the JPFam’s spirit of Infinite Love, Infinite Growth and Infinite Possibilities and demonstrated the college’s commitment to the National Day theme which is to move forward, ‘Together, As One United People’.
